Compare · AI therapist apps

AI therapist apps, compared on what they state.

These apps present an AI as a therapy-style listener. Here is what each says about itself, and where TwentyThird differs and where it is limited.

In short

AI therapist apps are chat apps that present an AI agent as a therapy-style listener. As of 2026-10-30, the Woebot consumer app and Youper have closed, Earkick’s App Store removal was reported in April 2026, and Wysa’s listing says it offers no diagnosis or treatment advice. TwentyThird is not an AI therapist; a psychologist configures its agent, in early access.

  • Earkick (status unclear)

Common Sense Media reports Earkick, with more than 250,000 users, was removed from the App Store in April 2026. Earkick’s own site still showed an App Store link and a web chat on 2026-10-30 and said nothing about closure. Check availability on your device before relying on it.

Who designs the agent

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

A licensed psychologist configures Oneli, the agent a member talks to. This is in early access: psychologists are being verified, and until a member has one, the agent works on its own.

  • Woebot (consumer app retired)

STAT describes a smartphone app with a cartoon-style bot that guided conversations based on cognitive behavioural therapy techniques, with responses that were pre-scripted rather than generated.

  • Youper (closed)

Its site describes Youper, Inc. of San Francisco and an AI chatbot for tracking mood, reflecting on emotional wellbeing and organising thoughts in a journal. It states the service is for people aged 18 and over.

Source: Youper, home page · as of 2026-10-30

  • Earkick (status unclear)

Who is responsible for what it says

  • TwentyThird

WelloWork AB operates the service. Where a psychologist supervises, decisions about care belong to that psychologist, not to the AI. Without one, nobody at TwentyThird reads a member’s messages.

    On this site: /safety

  • Youper (closed)

Its site states that responses have not been reviewed by a licensed mental health professional, that Youper is not FDA-cleared or approved, and that it is not a substitute for professional care.

What a human can see

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

With supervision, a psychologist sees a member’s readings and any alert by default, and conversations only if the member turns that on. Supervision is in early access, so today most members have no human who can see anything.

    On this site: /for-psychologists

  • Wysa

The listing describes human involvement as a paid add-on: 1:1 life coaching sessions and “Guided Support” plans, with guidance from a qualified mental health professional.

What it says it will not do

  • TwentyThird

Oneli will not diagnose, prescribe or treat, will not promise outcomes, will not pretend to be human or to be your psychologist, and does not handle emergencies.

    On this site: /safety

  • Earkick (status unclear)

Its App Store listing states that Earkick does not offer any diagnostic measurements or treatment advice, and tells people in a crisis to reach out to doctors.

Where the data goes

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

Account data and what a member writes are stored in an EU database. AI replies are written by Google’s Gemini models through OpenRouter, outside the EU. It is not an EU-only service; the privacy page lists every processor.

    On this site: /legal/privacy

  • Wysa

The developer-provided App Store privacy label lists device ID, user ID, product interaction and diagnostics as data not linked to you. Apple does not verify the label.

  • TwentyThird

€23.23 a month for the Room plan after a 3-day trial. Psychologist supervision is billed on top at €5–50 a month, set by the psychologist (early access). A written report costs €11.11 once.

Where TwentyThird is limited

What TwentyThird does not have, stated plainly.

  • Psychologist supervision is in early access. Not every member has a psychologist yet, and until one is assigned the agent works on its own.
  • No human is alerted today if a member writes something alarming. TwentyThird is not monitored in real time and is not a crisis service.
  • AI replies are written by Google’s Gemini models through OpenRouter, outside the EU. Account data is stored in the EU. It is not an EU-only service.
  • TwentyThird publishes no efficacy data of its own, and it is not a medical device.
Choosing

When one of these fits, and when TwentyThird does.

Look elsewhere if you want

  • Structured, scripted exercises from a named therapy method such as CBT. Oneli is a conversation, not a skills programme.
  • A product with a medical-device certification. TwentyThird has none.
  • A person alerted when you are in danger. Today none is. Contact local emergency services; in the EU, call 112.

TwentyThird may fit if you want

  • An agent that follows what repeats in your own writing across weeks, framed psychodynamically.
  • A licensed psychologist who can configure the agent for you, which is in early access.
  • An agent that says plainly it is an AI and not your therapist.
Before you choose

Ten questions to ask any of them.

  1. Who designed the agent, and can you find their name and qualifications?
  2. Who is responsible for what it says, and is that written down?
  3. Can any human see what you write, and who decides?
  4. Is every message checked for risk, and is a person alerted when it matters?
  5. What does it say it will not do?
  6. What evidence exists, and is it about this product or about something similar?
  7. Where is your data stored, and which companies process it?
  8. What does it cost after the trial, and how do you cancel?
  9. Can you export or delete everything you wrote?
  10. What happens to your data and your access if the company closes?
Questions

Common questions, answered.

Is TwentyThird an AI therapist app?

No. TwentyThird does not diagnose, treat or take a clinician’s role, and it is not a medical device. It is a psychodynamic AI for self-understanding between appointments, configured by a licensed psychologist where supervision is available (early access).

Are Woebot, Youper and Earkick still available?

As of 2026-10-30, Woebot’s FAQ says its app was retired on 30 June 2025, Youper’s site says it discontinued services on 30 September 2026, and Common Sense Media reports Earkick left the App Store in April 2026. Earkick’s own site still shows a download link, so check your store.

What should I look for in an AI therapist app?

Look for who designed it, who is responsible for what it says, what a human can see, what is checked for risk, what it refuses to do, the evidence, where data goes, the price and what happens if the company closes. The ten questions below cover these.

Does TwentyThird alert anyone if I am in danger?

No human is alerted today. Every message passes an AI safety check and serious messages show crisis lines, but TwentyThird is not monitored in real time. If you are in danger, contact local emergency services now. In the EU, call 112.

If you are in danger, contact local emergency services now — 112 anywhere in the EU. TwentyThird is not an emergency service. How safety works
