AI journaling apps, compared on what they state.

AI journals answer back and look for patterns in what you write. Here is what Rosebud and Mindsera say about themselves, next to TwentyThird.

In short

AI journaling apps are journals that answer back and look for patterns in what a person writes. As of 2026-10-30, Rosebud and Mindsera both publish pricing and privacy statements. TwentyThird differs in design: written conversations with Oneli, configured by a licensed psychologist where supervision is available, which is in early access. It is not a journal and not therapy.

Who designs the agent

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

A licensed psychologist configures Oneli, the agent a member talks to. This is in early access: psychologists are being verified, and until a member has one, the agent works on its own.

    On this site: /not-an-ai-therapist

  • Rosebud

Its site calls it an AI journaling app for personal growth. Its therapy and coaching page says it was co-designed with coaches and therapists, without naming them, and calls it a companion to coaching and therapy.

  • Mindsera

Its site presents an AI-powered journal on web, iPhone and Android that aims to reveal patterns over time.

What a human can see

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

With supervision, a psychologist sees a member’s readings and any alert by default, and conversations only if the member turns that on. Supervision is in early access, so today most members have no human who can see anything.

  • Rosebud

Its therapy and coaching page states that no one reads your entries but you, and that reports can be brought to a session.

What is monitored

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

Every message passes a separate AI safety check before Oneli answers, and a serious message shows crisis lines. That check is an AI model too and can miss things. No human is alerted today; TwentyThird is not monitored in real time.

  • Rosebud

Its privacy policy says automated systems run quality evaluations on real interactions and that these are not reviewed by staff.

Evidence base

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

TwentyThird publishes no efficacy data of its own. The research cited on its science page concerns psychodynamic psychotherapy delivered by people and chatbots built by others, not TwentyThird.

  • Rosebud

Its science page cites published research on expressive writing, gratitude and conversational AI, and reports a survey of 700 users seven days after joining, with self-reported improvement (63% for anger, 52% for grief, 40% for ADHD symptoms).

Where the data goes

  • TwentyThirdWhere TwentyThird is limited

Account data and what a member writes are stored in an EU database. AI replies are written by Google’s Gemini models through OpenRouter, outside the EU. It is not an EU-only service; the privacy page lists every processor.

  • Rosebud

Its privacy policy names OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Amazon Web Services and Groq as AI providers. It says journal text is sent to them without identifying information, under zero-data-retention agreements, and that the operator is Just Imagine Inc.

Where TwentyThird is limited

What TwentyThird does not have, stated plainly.

  • Psychologist supervision is in early access. Not every member has a psychologist yet, and until one is assigned the agent works on its own.
  • No human is alerted today if a member writes something alarming. TwentyThird is not monitored in real time and is not a crisis service.
  • AI replies are written by Google’s Gemini models through OpenRouter, outside the EU. Account data is stored in the EU. It is not an EU-only service.
  • TwentyThird publishes no efficacy data of its own, and it is not a medical device.
Choosing

When a journal fits, and when TwentyThird does.

A journal may suit you if you want

  • A place to write on your own schedule, with prompts and a paid tier you can price against a free one.
  • A tool that is not trying to follow a clinical frame.

TwentyThird may suit you if you want

  • To talk with an agent that reads what repeats in your own words, framed psychodynamically.
  • The option of a licensed psychologist configuring that agent for you (early access).
  • The people around you, through a Circle, to be part of the picture.
Before you choose

Ten questions to ask any of them.

  1. Who designed the agent, and can you find their name and qualifications?
  2. Who is responsible for what it says, and is that written down?
  3. Can any human see what you write, and who decides?
  4. Is every message checked for risk, and is a person alerted when it matters?
  5. What does it say it will not do?
  6. What evidence exists, and is it about this product or about something similar?
  7. Where is your data stored, and which companies process it?
  8. What does it cost after the trial, and how do you cancel?
  9. Can you export or delete everything you wrote?
  10. What happens to your data and your access if the company closes?
Questions

Common questions, answered.

Is TwentyThird an AI journaling app?

Not exactly. A member writes conversations with Oneli, an AI agent that tracks what repeats. That overlaps with a journal, but a licensed psychologist can configure the agent, which is in early access, and TwentyThird is built for self-understanding between appointments, not as a diary.

Is Rosebud still available?

As of 2026-10-30, Rosebud’s site and help centre were live. Its help centre states that the free plan was retired effective 30 September 2026 and that entries can be exported at any time. Check the app for the current offer.

Where does my journal text go with an AI journaling app?

It depends on the app. Rosebud’s privacy policy names five AI providers that receive journal text without identifying information. Mindsera states that data is not used to train AI models. TwentyThird stores account data in the EU and generates replies outside the EU.

How much does TwentyThird cost compared with a journaling app?

TwentyThird’s Room plan costs €23.23 a month after a 3-day trial. Psychologist supervision is billed on top at €5–50 a month, in early access. Rosebud and Mindsera list their own prices in the table above.

If you are in danger, contact local emergency services now — 112 anywhere in the EU. TwentyThird is not an emergency service. How safety works
